The new Badalona II power plant increased generating capacity but also came in for harsh criticism over air pollution.
In 1965, FECSA opened the Badalona II thermal power plant to meet the sustained growth in metropolitan energy consumption. With a capacity of nearly 320 MW and fueled by fuel oil, it represented a significant increase in production capacity compared to Badalona I. However, the rise in emissions of particulate matter, soot, and combustion gases intensified local concerns about air quality. The facility highlighted the environmental cost of the energy model of the time and foreshadowed the public debate that would later accompany the construction of the Les Tres Xemeneies power plant.
