In 2023, Besòs i el Maresme was selected in the international Europan 17 competition as a study area for testing innovative urban regeneration solutions. The competition focused on the social and structural complexity of the housing blocks built in the 1950s and 1960s, inviting participants to rethink infrastructure, public space and community integration. This initiative once again put the neighbourhood at the forefront of the international architectural debate and paved the way for new intervention strategies capable of combining historical memory, urban improvement and sustainability within the metropolitan area.
